Service Designer – Full time, salary negotiable based on experience
As a service designer you’ll be working on all aspects of Sidekick’s service design and innovation projects. This will involve coordinating and conducting user research, planning and facilitating workshops, developing designs and prototypes in the studio and creating communications to support their presentation to clients. We want someone who can engage with the big picture, and enjoys getting stuck into the details at the same time.
Ideally we’re looking for someone with a couple of years experience working in a service design, design research or innovation studio. You’ll have experience directly delivering for clients and you’ll be comfortable articulating the stories, methods and processes behind the work you do. Experience working with public sector organisations would be great, but isn’t essential.
Skills wise, you’ll need:
- Strong communication design skills in the broadest sense, including excellent written english, presentation skills and an eye for layout.
- A solid knowledge of Adobe’s design programmes – producing great looking documentation quickly will be an important part of your job.
- A solid understanding of how the internet works – UX and/or coding skills would be great.
- An interest in how to actually make stuff, not just draw it, and some experience of doing so – arduino/workshop/general physical prototyping skills would be great too.
- A clear appreciation of the value of user research in the service design process, and an knowledge of the different methods and tools used to engage and understand people’s behaviours, motivations and needs.
If this sounds like you, have a wander round the website to see what else we do. Broadly, we like the internet. Correction. We love the internet. Especially, when it’s used to solve social problems – in world-changing, hugely ambitious and audacious ways. We like things to be fun too. And simple. And surprising. And look good. Above all, we love the work that we do. Social Innovation isn’t a hobby or a day job. It’s who we are and what we want to spend our days thinking about. It’s plenty hardwork trying to change the world, so don’t expect a 9-5 job.
If this all sounds up your street, then please send stuff (portfolios, videos, surprise parties etc) that shows us what a good match you are to nick@sidekickstudios.net
[We want to hire full time people, but we'd also like to hear from freelances too. And no agencies, please]
