Combining an established social networking platform and bespoke data reporting tools, we created technology to help 200 Barclays Spaces for Sports community sport sites be more sustainable.

CASE STUDY

Here at Sidekick one of our fundamental beliefs is that when technology starts get boring, it starts getting useful.

So as the media hoards deserted Facebook, we harnessed the power of social networks to improve the sustainability of 200 community sport sites that Barclays had invested £30million in developing. We used Ning to decentralise the old local-to-national development model, and embraced a peer-to-peer system, where grassroots groups could support one another instead of looking to central handouts.

At the same time, we took the web’s ability to collect, aggregate and share data and put it to good use by developing bespoke online surveys and data reporting tools that allowed each and every site to better track, monitor and compare their ’sustainability health’.

Nothing sexy here. Just stuff that was useful.
